There's nothing store-bought available in the US.  You have to either buy it in SBH or make it yourself.  Most of the restos in SBH who offer Rhum Vanille will sell you a bottle to take home.  There are also three stores on SBH that sell Rhum Vanille, as well as other flavors.  The one across from Lou Lou's and near Le Select and L'Oubli Bar is La Pinta.  Down the street from Le Select, in the old Shell Shop location, is M'Bolo.  Albert of La Gloriette fame has a shop in Grand Cul de Sac, adjacent to the parking lot for the former La Gloriette and Cocoloba.

Making it yourself is easy - this is the easiest and fastest recipe that I have found.

2 Parts Sugar Cane Syrup (or simple syrup)

1 Part vanilla Extract

5 Parts Mount Gay Rum

2 parts Myers Rum

McGinness -

My only caution would be to make a small batch first and adjust the sweetness to your taste.  The "parts" can be in any size, so a small batch is as easy to make as a large batch.

Those who don't want bother to make their own Rhum Vanille might want to try Navan, a vanilla flavored cognac liquer made by Grand Marnier.  You should be able to find it in many establishments that have a well-stocked bar.

I have purchased Vanilla Rum at the Supermarche in St. Jean.  It was much less expensive than many of the stores in Gustavia and just as tasty.  Makes a nice gift to bring back home.

Buy it at the airport in St. Maarten before you leave at the liquor store.

no. no, no. The most delicious, smooth, velvet vanilla rhum is at Santa Fe.

And if your throat can stand the burn of ginger rhum, Le Repaire is the best.

More report to come as I settle back at home. Just back today. Lots to report

Mccoy, I was replying to the easiest way to take some home. The store at Julianna sells it. Of course it is better in many restaurants around the island.
